  5. 0.  What is new in this release
  6.  
  7.      This is the first OPTi 82c928, 82c929 and 82c924 audio driver release 
  8.      for Windows NT version 3.51. Throughout this readme file, 82c92x refers 
  9.      to 82c928, 82c929, and 82c924.

  11.      This Windows NT driver provides the following support for OPTi 82c92x-
  12.      based sound card:
  13.         Wave playback/capture
  14.         Midi playback
  15.         Mic recording
  16.         Volume control      
  17.         Driver installation/configuration
  18.         IDE CD-ROM support

  21. 1.  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS
  22.  
  23.      The OPTi 82c92x Windows NT Audio Driver installation package contains 
  24.      the following files:
  25.  
  26.           - OEMSETUP.INF - Windows NT driver installation text file 
  27.           - SNDOPTI.DLL  - Windows NT user mode driver for OPTi 82c92x.
  28.           - SNDOPTI.SYS  - Windows NT kernel mode driver for OPTi 82c92x.
  29.           - SNDINIT.SYS  - Windows NT kernel mode driver for setting OPTi 
  30.                            82c92x on-board IDE CD-ROM interface.
  31.           - MIDIMAP.CFG  - Midi Mapper for OPTi92x.    
  32.           - README.NT    - This help file.

  35. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  36.  
  37.      The installation process assumes that Windows NT v3.51 has been installed.
  38.      Refer to documents for Windows NT installation. 
  39.    
  40.      Step 1:   
  41.         Insert OPTi 82c92x sound card in the system. Refer to your menu for
  42.         proper sound card hardware installation.
  43.  
  44.      Step 2:           
  45.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Windows NT audio 
  46.         driver can't be installed or modified unless Windows NT is started 
  47.         in Adminstrator mode.
  48.         
  49.      Step 3:
  50.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  51.         Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers:
  52.                 Windows Sound System
  53.                 OPTi 82c928, 82c929, 82c924
  54.         If none of the drivers exist, continue to Step 4, 
  55.         otherwise restart system.
  56.  
  57.      Step 4:
  58.         Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  59.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  60.         Choose the Add button in the Drivers dialog box.
  61.         Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and choose the OK button.
  62.         Insert the OPTi 82c92x Windows NT installation diskette in floppy 
  63.         drive and choose the OK button. You may see an Driver Exists pop up
  64.         windows if you are installing over an existing sndopti driver. Choose
  65.         the New button to install a new driver.

  67.      Step 5:
  68.         A setup dialog box will appear.
  69.  
  70.         Select the I/O address, Interrupt, and DMA for OPTi 82c92x.
  71.         Choose the CD-ROM Interface Settings for selecting whether to enable
  72.         or disable the on-board IDE CD-ROM interface.
  73.         Choose the OK button when you finish selecting the settings.

  75.      Step 6:   
  76.         Choose the Restart Now button to have the new driver and any changed
  77.         driver settings to take effect when Windows NT restart.

  80. 3. CHANGING DRIVER SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLATION
  81.      
  82.      Driver settings can be changed after installation.

  84.      Step 1:   
  85.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  86.  
  87.      Step 2:
  88.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  89.         Select OPTi 82c928, 82c929, 82c924 in Installed Drivers Dialog box.
  90.         Choose Setup button.

  92.      Follows Step 5 and 6 of INSTALLATION PROCESS above.

  95. 4. INSTALLATION DETAILS
  96.  
  97.      The Windows NT driver installation does the following:
  98.  
  99.      - Copy files to your hard disk. 
  100.         sndopti.sys, sndopti.dll, sndinit.sys, midimap.cfg and README.NT 
  101.         are copied to the NT system directories.
  102.      - Create/Update configuration information in the registry
  103.         The following two Keys are created in the registry under 
  104.         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services path:
  105.                 sndopti
  106.                 sndinit
  107.      - Reboot system.

  109. 5. CD-ROM INSTALLATION NOTES
  110.      
  111.      The CD-ROM Interface Settings in driver setup provides the choice of 
  112.      enable or disable the 82c92x on board IDE CD-ROM interface (Default to
  113.      disabled).  It DOESN'T install the NT IDE CD-ROM driver. 
  114.      It's your responsibility to install the NT IDE-CD ROM driver.   
  115.         
  116.      To install an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to 82c92x:
  117.  
  118.      - Make sure there is no secondary IDE port that is enabled on 
  119.        your system motherboard or another add-on card.
  120.      - Choose "Enable IDE CD-ROM Interface" check box. This instructs the 
  121.        kernel mode driver sndinit.sys to enable the 82c92x on board
  122.        secondary IDE port 170h and IRQ15 upon NT boot time.
  123.      - To install the Windows NT IDE CD-ROM driver (ATAPI.SYS), please refer
  124.        to the Windows NT System Guide.
